Fall Fun: Arts and Crafts

Lately we've been busy preparing our Fall window display for the shop. (We're allowed to put it up a little late since it still feels like summer in Southern California until October!) Working on displays is our favorite because it's like arts and crafts time!
As the weather begins to cool down, what's cozier than settling in for an evening with your sewing kit, scissors, and paste (and maybe even some glitter)? It's so fun to see what you can make with your own hands and even more fun to put it on display for your friends to see. We can't give away what we're doing for our decorations just yet, but here are a couple neat ideas from Martha Stewart that we love:

Wouldn't the oak-leaf bowl be a festive earring holder? And we love the fabric pumpkins because unlike real ones they'll last all season (and bonus, you can make them any color- not just orange or white!). Get the how-to's here:

Spotted: A Beautiful Mess

Check out Elsie of A Beautiful Mess wearing our tote bag and beetle ring! We love the look-- especially her nail polish. Word on the street is olive and army green are the new It nail colors for fall. We still love last year's "greige", but we can get on board with this too!

Growing Secrets Tote Bag $22.99
And unfortunately we're sold out of the gold beetle ring, but here is a similar style in black: Beetle Ring in Black $14.99

Don't forget to enter Elsie's giveaway for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Spotted Moth! Only a few days left to enter.

Doesn't this home decor line Castle make you so happy? We love all of it, especially the artwork (which is all sewn by the founder, Rachel Castle, and her mother)!

Fashion Week Fave: Rodarte

Isn't Rodarte's Spring 2012 RTW collection amazing? When asked about the line, the Mulleavy sisters said that they were originally inspired by the vivid greens and purples in Sleeping Beauty, and wondered who else used similar colors. They came up with Vincent van Gogh and designed their prints based not only on the Dutch painter's color palette, but on his famous depictions of wheat fields, starry nights, and sunflowers as well.

We love it!

Love in the Air

Lately it seems like everyone is getting married. We've had countless lovely ladies come in to the shop to look for their bridal shower dress, their bachelorette party dress, or even their actual wedding dress! It's so exciting, we absolutely can't get enough of it. Such an honor for us to be a part of something so special!

Don't those photos make you feel all twitterpated? I had to put extras of the last couple because when I saw the bride I actually stopped breathing for a minute. The dress, the necklace, the headpiece. "I literally die," in the infamous words of Rachel Zoe. What would/did you wear to your wedding? (All images from OnceWed)

Nifty Nails

No matter how busy I get, I always make time for my nails. Even if I have to paint them at midnight and then fall asleep rigor mortis style with my hands above the covers to prevent them from smudging. Looking at my hands and seeing a chipped mess just makes me feel like I'm twelve years old again (and I think we can all agree that being twelve once is quite enough!).

I usually just stick to the basic 2-coats-of-polish look, but what do you guys think of super fancy manicures like these? Do you get your nails done professionally? I used to but kicked the habit once I realized how silly it was to get frustrated when they inevitably chipped the very next day. "Another 25 dollars down the drain! That's it-- no more touching anything EVER!" Not so practical.

But having pretty colored nails can brighten your day, and maybe even someone else's if you get creative enough. It's like another accessory for us girls to have (because you know, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and bags just aren't enough sometimes).

Do you have any fun manicure tricks? I think I might have to try the reverse french manicure today. I would love to hear your ideas!

Meet the Model: Jennifer

Spotted Moth: What do you do?
Jennifer: I'm an educator at the Aquarium of the Pacific and a biology student. I am hoping to be a marine biologist one day.

Spotted Moth: Describe your personal style- How do you like to dress?
Jennifer: I adore anything reminiscently vintage-looking but I like to keep my style simple. Usually I'm wearing high-waisted pants, a button-up top and a cute jacket.

Spotted Moth: What are your favorite items from Spotted Moth?

Jennifer: Illusionist Dress
Heart Beat Heels
Get the Giggles Bag
Seven of Diamonds Necklace
Mercury Ring

Spotted Moth: What was your favorite part of the September photoshoot?
Jennifer: Either the look on Maile
's face when some screaming kids ran right through a shot or you telling me to "tone down" my eyebrow (laughs).
