Handmade Prom
We recently heard a story on NPR (where else?) about Maura Pozek, a high school student in Missouri who makes her own prom dresses out of unusual materials. Most girls think of chiffon, taffeta, and tulle when it comes to prom attire- not Doritos bags, soda tabs, and cardboard, like Maura! We went nuts over her creativity and all the effort she put into creating such unique and fun dresses.
How awesome is she!? Did you go for a DIY prom dress or did you keep it more traditional? I never missed a dance in high school so I liked to switch it up; for some dances I picked a pattern and fabric and had my Mom sew it up for me, or sometimes I would find a vintage dress and dye and alter that. I can only think of one time that I bought a new dress and wore it as-is! I was so lucky to grow up with a creative sister and talented mom to help me with ideas and execution. What did you wear to prom? What do you think of Maura's handmade dresses? We'd love to hear! :)
Amazing dresses!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wore a hand-me-down dress, bleck. But I loved it. I would've gladly worn one of these. I graduated from a school in Independence, MO. I wonder where she's from? Anyway, these dresses are great and fun!
